Freedom of Information Requests

Members of the public may make requests for inspection or for copies of public records in Cook County under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”), 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq. This Act provides that some records are exempt from inspection and copying.

Each Cook County agency or department is a separate body responsible for maintaining its own records.  Requests for information must be submitted to the agency or department that maintains the records you are looking for (please refer to the Organizational Chart for Cook County).
