The Department of Facilities Management maintains, operates, services, and repairs County properties and operating equipment. The Department also provides the personnel 
and supervision needed to remodel, rehabilitate, construct, and install the various facilities, offices, equipment, and devices needed to keep all properties functioning.

Mission

The mission of the Cook County Department of Facilities Management is to maintain and operate Cook County facilities in a cost effective, safe, and functional manner while also serving both the general public and various Cook County departments.
 
Facilities Management is charged with maintaining the County’s physical plant, which is comprised of approximately eleven million square feet. These facilities include: the Cook County Jail complex, Cook County Criminal Courts & Administration Building, Cook County Building, five suburban courthouses (Bridgeview, Markham, Maywood, Skokie, and Rolling Meadows), Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, Domestic Violence Courthouse, Forensic Institute, Hawthorne Warehouse, and Rockwell Warehouse.

The department is working to maintain a safe and user friendly environment with enhanced information access. The facilities are accessible, secure, and structurally sound.
 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Major Accomplishments

  • In the year 2009 the Work Orders have increased by 49.8 % (151,702Work Orders) from the previous year without increasing personnel
      
  • 2009 NACo Award Winner for the newly implemented Building Team Initiative
     
  • Facilities Management had completed 85 % of the work requests
     
  • Budget request for 2009 is 9 % less than 2003
     
  • The standard productivity measure for building maintenance is operating expenditures per square foot. Since 2003, Facilities Management has reduced the overall price per square foot to $2.89. This figure is $0.79 less than the 2008 BOMA average, which is the last year in which statistics were available. The BOMA report does not include any 24/7 correctional facilities, which make up 43.2% of all property.
