The Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center is the nations first free-standing, specialized out-patient health care facility addressing the medical and social needs of people with HIV/AIDS and other chronic infectious diseases. The CORE Center is the product of a historic partnership between Rush-Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center, the largest private hospital in Illinois, and the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, the state's largest public hospital.
Serving as a national model of outpatient care for persons who are HIV positive, have AIDS, or have contracted other infectious diseases, The CORE Center opened in the fall of 1998, designed with input from patients and members of the community.
The CORE Center is a one-stop approach to treatment. Services include primary care, laboratory testing, infusion therapy, pediatrics, dental care, specialty consultations and screenings, complementary medicine and mental healthcare. Emotional and community adjustment needs are met through psychological and social service support teams. The first of its kind in the United States, The CORE Center offers compassionate, holistic programming in an uplifting setting.
The CORE Center is also committed to providing leadership in infectious disease research to help patients live longer, more comfortably and more independently. Clinical research, behavioral science research and natural history studies are available to our patients, including pregnant women, children and adolescents.
In September 2007, Cook County, in partnership with Caremark and the National Association of Counties (NACo), introduced the new Cook County Prescription Drug Discount Card Program. This free card is available to all county residents and can provide significant savings on prescription drugs with no income requirements, no age requirements, and unlimited use for the whole family.
Any county resident without prescription coverage can use this program. Even if you have insurance for prescription drugs, you may still benefit from the discount card, since it may save you money on prescription drugs your existing plan does not cover.
