The mission of the office of Clerk of the Circuit Court is to serve the citizens of Cook County and the participants in the judicial system in a timely, efficient and ethical manner. All services, information and court records will be provided with courtesy and cost efficiency. The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County is the keeper of the records for the Court. The Clerk is responsible for serving the court, the legal profession and the general public. In this role, the Clerk records court decisions and events, handles fines, bail bonds and other financial transactions and provides the court system with supportive services such as record storage, microfilming and automation. These responsibilities are executed under rules and procedures designed to assure the citizens that our judicial system is fair efficient and effective.
The Circuit Court of Cook County is the worlds largest unified trial court, with a caseload of nearly 2.4 million cases. To service this system, the Clerk employs over 2,300 people and manages a budget of $74 million. The operations of the Clerks office are comparable in size to many Fortune 500 companies.
