Owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society, the Chicago Botanic Garden, a 300-acre living museum, offers you the opportunity to experience more than 20 different gardens and absorb their unparalleled beauty. Whether it’s the serenity of the Japanese Garden, the vibrant colors of the Rose Garden, or the romance of the English Walled Garden, the Chicago Botanic Garden offers insight into nature’s plant-people partnership.

The Chicago Horticultural Society has been promoting gardens and gardening since 1890. the Societys flower shows, victory gardens, horticultural lectures and more have touched generations of Chicagoans. With the ground-breaking for the Chicago Botanic Garden in 1965 and its opening in 1972, the Society created a permanent site on which to carry out its mission. That mission encompasses three important components: collections, education and research.
